Watford
It might be surprising to many that Watford is only 20 minutes away from central London. It lies at the end of London Underground’s Metropolitan Line and that super connectivity is set to improve yet further with the construction of two new Metropolitan Line stations at Cassiobridge and Vicarage Road by 2018. Furthermore, it will become easier to transfer to overland services when the Metropolitan Line will be extended to reach the mainline railway at Watford Junction, thus making travel north to Milton Keynes and Birmingham much easier.
At the moment, house prices in Watford compare very favourably to those in nearby north London. It is anticipated, however, that the expanded rail network and improved connectivity into London, will have a positive effect on house prices. This might further be encouraged by the planned investment in Watford, including the complete regeneration of the High Street area which has been considered a ‘blot on the landscape’ of Watford’s otherwise good report.
Parents of young children might be drawn by the presence of the boys and girls grammar schools although it should remembered that selective education does bring with it additional pressures and worries (and expense too if tutoring is used).
